A collaboration with Jake Seltzer, Re: Contact includes poems and images of places, people, ideas, and activities that are only accessible in memories and photographs due to the COVID-19 disruptions. Seltzer’s words are brash and energetic, speaking directly to his readers. My images are understated, highlighting the pixelation, reflections, and smudges on the digital screens that are even more a part of our daily lives than ever before. The zine builds on our lifelong friendship to explore our shared relationship with athletics, childhood and families in New York City, and our role as educators. The title, Re: Contact, references the collaboration, which took place via text messages and emails, as well as the new challenges of physical contact with others, the potential for lenses to transform the way we see the world, and a shared desire for connection.
The zine debuted in Quranzines, an online zine festival that featured zines by Sacramento State faculty and students.
